Village Blacksmiths

We have discovered we are descended from a family called Block who were blacksmiths in the village for several generations.

Can anyone tell me if there is "The old Forge" or similar in the village.

Does anyone know of any Blocks still living in the area and if there are any gravestones with that name on in the churchyard?

Hi David,

There is definitely an old forge in the village, it's not far from the village hall and playing field. Someone from the Archive group may be able to help with the gravestone question, you can send a message at this page.

Thanks.

I think I will come over and see if there are any church records.

Do you know who has these and if they are in the local church keeping still?

David
Did you get the e-mail from Blaxhall Archive Group we sent it a few weeks ago?

Yes - thank you very much.

Am a bit stuck now on family history until I can get time to visit the county archives.

I was looking at places to stay in the area and chanced upon the Blaaxhall site - will be there this Friday - and found your enquiry. My uncle Douglas Block was born and died in Thorpeness, some 6 miles away and is buried there approx 6 years ago His wife, Anne, still lives there and their children have dispersed around East Anglia. Following his service in the Royal Navy he became well known as a plumber (with forearms like a blacksmith).
I will visit my aunt this weekend and ask about other relatives in Thorpeness and Aldeburgh.
